Folkestone is a coastal resort town in the Shepway district of Kent, England. Its proximity to mainland Europe played a part in its extreme damage during both World Wars - over 500 properties were completely destroyed and 10,000 more were seriously damaged. With so many period properties lost during the first half of the 20th century, a movement of restoration began; and this development continues today in a bid to make it more appealing to tourists and prospective buyers. The forthcoming High Speed Rail Link will mean that Folkestone will be less than one hour from London by train - a development expected to contibute to a surge of incoming people looking for property for sale in Folkestone.
