The first references to the existence of the parish date back to the 16th century (before 1514) and its importance comes from intense agricultural activity.
The parish of Luz de Tavira is located six kilometers from Tavira and is bordered to the south by the Ria Formosa and to the north by the parish of Santo Estêvão.
The population lives essentially from agriculture, collecting bivalves in the Torre d'Aires area (where structures from the important Roman city of Balsa dating from the 3rd to 1st centuries bc were discovered), production of good quality citrus fruit and small trade. Iron and carpentry work and artefacts for artisanal fishing are produced.
In gastronomic terms, in addition to cuttlefish feijoada, oysters and corn with shells, regional almond sweets should be highlighted, to be enjoyed in the parish's various restaurants. Regarding accommodation, the parish has some infrastructure.
