Description
Nestled within the historic Glassingall Estate, Old Glassingall is an attractive Category B Listed former Laird's House dating from 1745, and extended in around 1850. This handsome early Georgian residence occupies a peaceful, south-facing position amidst some of Scotland's most attractive yet accessible countryside, with the Ochil Hills rising to the east and the Trossachs lying to the west. Old Glassingall is a house of immense character and heritage, both of which have been thoughtfully retained despite being spectacularly modernised by the current owners. The property now combines a wealth of traditional features with naturally bright, open-plan living space, making it highly appealing for modern family life.
The lands of Glassingall were held by the Kinbuck family for more than three centuries, from around 1100 until 1455, and the estate remains steeped in local history. According to renowned local historian Archie McKerracher, Old Glassingall is believed to have inspired the original "House of Shaws" in Robert Louis Stevenson's celebrated novel Kidnapped, with aspects of the story drawn from the family who once called the house home.
Particular highlights of Old Glassingall's accommodation include the impressive kitchen and dining room, which forms the heart of the home and sits open plan with the orangery. The modernised kitchen/dining room features a central island with breakfast bar, as well as a blend of stone and wood worktops. Integrated appliances include a Rangemaster Professional Deluxe cooker. A rear hall, with a back door leading to the courtyard, sits off the kitchen and leads to the utility room, which houses a WC and cupboard with ground source heating system.
The addition of the orangery in 2023 by the current owners has transformed the living space, creating an exceptional room flooded with natural light from its large overhead skylight and enjoying direct access to the gardens.. With its contemporary wood-burning stove, vaulted feel and generous proportions, it offers a wonderful living and entertaining space that flows seamlessly out into the garden. Other charming reception rooms include the family room, sitting/music room and drawing room, all of which are south facing and enjoy lovely outlooks over the Glassingall Estate. There is also a spacious games room located above the garage and accessed via an internal staircase.
The house has five generously proportioned bedrooms. Approached by the main staircase leading up from the front hall, two bedrooms, a family shower room and a study sit off the first-floor landing. The principal bedroom benefits from an en suite bathroom and walk-in wardrobe. Two further double bedrooms are situated on the second floor above and share a shower room off the landing. The fifth bedroom, accompanied by a shower room, is approached via a separate staircase leading up from the rear hall off the kitchen, making it ideal for guests.
Old Glassingall can be approached via either the estate's main entrance gates and attractive tree-lined driveway, or the rear driveway, which is accessed from the next turning off the B8033 when travelling north. The rear driveway sweeps behind the house before leading into the courtyard, where there is extensive parking and garaging.
A significant feature of the property is its range of outbuildings and ancillary accommodation. These include a substantial garage/workshop with storerooms above, three Victorian stables and two further stalls with original wrought iron hay feeders, a studio/gym, loft rooms, stores, a garden shed and summerhouse. The majority of these are arranged around the courtyard, offering outstanding flexibility for a variety of uses, as well as potential for further development, subject to the necessary consents. There is also the large former coach room which now houses the oil tank and provides ample space for garden machinery, and a separate garden shed with chimney which was originally the smoke-house. The gardens and grounds provide a lovely setting for the house, with areas of lawn, mature trees, established hedging and well-stocked borders combining to create an attractive and private environment.

There are three primary schools in the vicinity which feed into Dunblane High School. There is also a good selection of nursery schools and private schools nearby, including Ardvreck and Morrison’s Academy in Crieff, and Dollar Academy.
