Situation

Corriegorm is situated approximately 4½ miles west of Kenmore and is near the picturesque village of Fortingall, which lies at the entrance of Glen Lyon, the longest and one of the most beautiful glens in Scotland. This area is designated a Conservation Area, with a variety of charming properties including thatched cottages, a church and the famous ancient yew tree in the small village of Fortingall.
The planned village of Kenmore is an outstanding example of an eighteenth century planned settlement and is an indivisible part of a total designed landscape composition. It is located at the end of Loch Tay on a short peninsula beside the River Tay outflow. The Kenmore gateway, The Square, the main blocks of buildings, and Kenmore Church are arranged symmetrically, with a main road leading off north west to the Kenmore Bridge, the Post Office and the Reading Rooms. The history of Kenmore village stretches back to the mid 1500's. There has been settlement in the area much longer than this, as witnessed by the many crannogs and stone circles in the area. Many of these are several thousand years old. The village itself is relatively new (1540) and The Square has remained virtually unchanged since those days. As a result, it has a character and charm which is almost unrivalled in Scotland.
Aberfeldy is the nearest main centre with all its essential services to hand including a new medical centre and cottage hospital, banking, veterinary surgery, optician and dental practices, a varied selection of quality shops, and schooling at the well regarded Breadalbane Academy, providing education from nursery to 6th year secondary. Pitlochry, approximately 22 miles, is home to the famous Festival Theatre, and has a mainline railway station. The vibrant county town of Perth is about 45 minutes drive south.
The area provides ready access to a wide range of recreational pursuits, including golf on the many nine and 18 hole courses, sailing and watersports, and salmon and trout fishing on lochs and rivers, climbing and walking with several Munros nearby. The Aberfeldy Recreation Centre has a 25 metre pool and squash courts amongst its facilities. There are also many clubs and organisations catering for an extensive range of interests.

Description

Corriegorm is of traditional stone and brick construction with a pitched slated roof and has been substantially extended and modernised by the current owner.
Corriegorm, meaning "house on a shelf on a hill", benefits from a truly outstanding position. Impressive stone walls and a wrought iron gateway lead up the lamp lit drive to the main house, which sits in approximately 1.7 acres of land, with the Balnearn stream cascading down through it to Loch Tay below. The house itself has impressive views over Loch Tay.
To the right of the entrance into Corriegorm, there is a 35 ft long ornamental pond with over and under water lighting. A central fountain fed directly from the stream aerates the pond which is well stocked with trout and is surrounded by mature shrubs and trees.
The whole garden area is full of mature trees and shrubs including conifers, rhododendrons, azaleas, acers, cordolines, magnolias, camellias and weeping willows. Three bridges over the stream connect to a wild flower area which provides a happy hunting ground for numerous red squirrels and other wildlife. A private walkway leads up to the many hill and forestry walks.
The accommodation of Corriegorm has been fully utilised with the addition of the impressive Great Room and billiard room which itself extends to 92.5 m2 (995 ft2). Two tower rooms provide breathtaking south facing views out towards Loch Tay.
