South-west of Salisbury Plain and at the head of the Wylye Valley with its pretty villages and stunning landscape, Warminster is a beautiful town with many historic churches and buildings following the growth of the wool trade in the late Middle Ages. Thirty years ago, Warminster became famous for sightings of UFOs and for crop circles. Sadly, the UFO sightings were a convenient explanation for secret aircraft flown at night and the crop circles were trampled down by a couple of friends using a short plank of wood and a ball of string.
