With the architectural style of a mansion or palace of the so-called "architecture of indianos", the former Sanatorium Santa Rita is located on the Camino Real de Colloto, in a property of 2,640 m², which has access both to this street, through its main facade, and to the national road, through the back of the garden.
The property, which belongs for generations to the family of the founder of the old sanatorium, dates from the early twentieth century, being documented the grant of the building permit in 1902.
At that time, the municipal architect was Juan Miguel de la Guardia, author of important and very characteristic pieces of Oviedo architecture, such as the Casa Conde, in the Plaza de La Escandalera, the music kiosk on the Paseo del Bombé or the Villa Magdalena mansion. With the passing of time, there were other building elements in the estate that gradually disappeared. Among them was a garage and a large covered wash-dryer behind the well, which still exists. During the civil war, the gallery that closed the back of the house disappeared.
During this war, one of the events that marked the history of this palace occurred, as its occupants were evicted by the Republican army that installed its troops on the property.
The chapel is recognized as a public temple in which people from the village of Colloto attended mass and hosted numerous religious celebrations, such as weddings, baptisms and first communions.
The garden has hundred-year-old trees, such as fig trees and chestnut trees. It was customary at the time that the owners of "indianos" houses planted a magnolia and a palm tree, as a souvenir to the continent where their businesses prospered. The palm tree stands in the garden behind the main house.
