Fougerolles du Plessis is a commune of 1354 people, according to the 2014 census. Il covers an area of 12.6 square miles on the North West edge of Mayenne in the region of Pays de la Loire.
Fougerolles du Plessis takes its name, like the town of Fougères, from the Latin - Fulgenium- meaning fern. A plant abundant area. The village lies just a few kilometres from Ille et Vilaine (Britanny) and la Manche and l'Orne (Lower Normandy). See "plan de ville".
The town centre is built around the Church square and the market square, with bars, shops, library with internet access, doctors' surgery, pharmacy and mairie (town hall). A supermarket is within walking distance of the centre. The village also benefits from a primary school.
Traditionally agriculture has been the main employment, particularly dairy farming. Several commercial enterprises give employment in and around the village. See "commerce".
In recent years English speaking people have bought and renovated properties in the area and now represent around 10% of the population.
There are a number of features with historic interest including the church in the town centre, the Château de Goué and several sites relevant to the Franch resistance.
