The property, which dates back to the 15th Century, was originally a monks' farm of the Vallombrosa Monastery and its name is derived from the perennial springs situated within the grounds. The main house was beautifully restored to a high standard whilst leaving the original structure unchanged. Many of the original features remain such as the stone staircases, a mixture of chestnut and terracotta ceilings and much of the original terracotta and brick flooring. The estate extends over 25 hectares of land. The principle gardens are to the west of the house, descending from the main terrace and walled garden area which provides extensive outside eating areas, some of which are shaded by a large walnut tree. A series of grass terraces descend from the main terrace, one with a new 12m x 6m swimming pool. To the east of the house is predominantly woodland with a mixture of oak and chestnut trees. The gardens have mixed colour rose beds, an herbaceous border, and terracotta pots.

There is also an olive grove (c.200 trees) and a fruit orchard (c.120 trees) in front of the house.
