About this property
Woodside is a suburban district of residential streets based around Woodside Green, a 4.75-acre (1.92 ha) triangular green. There’s a war memorial at one end, and the green is surrounded by homes with the main shopping parade at one end. It has a long history - an indenture of 1662 refers to land on a green called Woodside Green. Locally, the name is fading: Most people in the SE25 postcode now call the area South Norwood. The street itself runs between Morland Road and Portland Road.
Transport
The area is served by two Tramlink stops, Woodside and Blackhorse Lane, with Norwood Junction the nearest rail station to the north. Trams from Woodside run between Beckenham Junction and Wimbledon, via East Croydon. Norwood Junction is on the London Overground, and buses near the green include the 197 (Peckham–Dulwich–Sydenham–Norwood Junction–Croydon Town Centre) plus the 130 and 312 from the tram stop.
Shops, food and drink
There’s a small parade on the green itself, and a wider selection of shopping and dining on Portland Road. There’s one pub in the immediate area, the Joiner’s Arms. Addiscombe High Street is also nearby, with more shops and cafés. For major shopping, Croydon town centre is a short tram ride away.
Parks and leisure
Beyond the green itself, there’s plenty of green space close by. South Norwood Country Park is a 47-hectare (116-acre) space opened in 1989, with a visitor centre, car park and duck pond, and it has a strong bird record, with over 100 species sighted each year. Ashburton Park, Brickfield Meadows and South Norwood Lake are also within reach. For sport, South Norwood Leisure Centre on Portland Road has a 32-station gym, a sprung-floor studio with over 30 weekly classes, and a 25m main pool plus a training pool.
