A surprising local fact is that Beaminster once had its own racecourse on Beaminster Down. The first meeting in 1867 attracted more than 4,000 spectators, although racing there lasted only until 1870.
Interestingly, Numatic, founded in Crewkerne in 1969, moved into premises on Broadwindsor Road in 1974. The first red Henry vacuum (model HVC200), created by company founder Chris Duncan, rolled off the production line in Beaminster in 1981.
