The house still has many of the period features that first attracted us, including original wood flooring, high ceilings, a Victorian fireplace and charming quirks such as the original loft access. Alongside these are thoughtful modern updates, including a brand-new boiler, a contemporary family bathroom and a new garden patio, making it a home that's full of character but ready for modern living.
The kitchen diner has truly become the heart of our home. It's where we've hosted family meals, celebrated birthdays and gathered with friends, while the adjoining utility room and downstairs WC have given us the flexibility every family needs. During lockdown it became our home gym and today it's invaluable as a utility and storage space. It's one of those areas that simply adapts as life changes.
One of our favourite features is the south-east facing garden. We love having our morning coffee in the sunshine, and because the sun moves around the house, the living room stays wonderfully cool on warmer afternoons. The side access has also been incredibly useful, whether bringing bikes through, tackling garden projects or entertaining outdoors.
Upstairs are three bright, airy bedrooms with lovely high ceilings and large windows that fill the rooms with natural light throughout the day. We've enjoyed having the flexibility to use one room as both a guest bedroom and home office, making the space work for whatever is needed.
Location was another big reason we chose this home. We love being on a quiet residential street where neighbours are quiet but know each other and people have really put down roots. The cherry blossom trees lining the road are beautiful every spring, there's free on-street parking, and you're never far from green space, with Grangewood Park, Crystal Palace Park and The Lakes all nearby for walks, picnics or weekend adventures.
Commuting has always been easy too, with Thornton Heath station around a seven-minute walk away and Norwood Junction about 20 minutes on foot, making central London easily accessible into Victoria, London Bridge, Blackfriars and beyond.. At the same time, we've loved watching the local area evolve, with a growing selection of independent cafés, restaurants and shops giving the high street a real sense of energy and community.
Finally, one of the things we appreciated when we bought the house was knowing there was still room to make it your own. Many neighbours have added loft and rear extensions and with side access already in place, there is fantastic potential for future owners to expand the home if they choose.
This house has been a wonderful place to grow, entertain and make memories. We hope its next owners will love it just as much as we have, as we prioritise living closer to family”.
