History

Gough's Buildings in Ystradgynlais were a network of 19th-century workmen's housing built by the prominent Gough family, who owned the local Ynyscedwen Ironworks and extensive estates in the upper Swansea Valley. Dr Daniel Protheroe the renowned Welsh musician and composer was born in Gough Buildings and there is a garden at the start of Rhestr Fawr dedicated to him.
