Description
A truly unique country property, Swan Cottage presents a rare opportunity to acquire a beautifully preserved Grade II listed medieval hall house together with a substantial detached annexe, offering exceptional flexibility for multi-generational living, guest accommodation or income generation.

Dating from around 1460 and dendrochronologically recorded as part of the Charlwood Project, Swan Cottage is an outstanding example of a medieval open hall, steeped in history and rich in period character. The insertion of the first floor is believed to have taken place between 1541 and 1571, creating the charming and characterful home enjoyed today.

The original cottage retains a wealth of impressive period features, including an atmospheric sitting room centred around a magnificent inglenook fireplace incorporating part of the original seating area and bread oven, now complemented by a contemporary wood-burning stove. The kitchen blends traditional charm with modern convenience, featuring bespoke hand-crafted cabinetry and stone worktops, while a separate utility room provides valuable additional storage and practicality. The bathroom is beautifully appointed with a contemporary white suite and striking flagstone flooring.

On the first floor are two generous double bedrooms, both enjoying vaulted ceilings and substantial oak floorboards. The principal bedroom is particularly noteworthy, featuring an attractive fireplace with wood-burning stove, creating a warm and characterful retreat.

Positioned to the rear of the cottage, the detached annexe was completed in 2019 and provides stylish secondary accommodation entirely separate from the principal house.

Designed with modern living in mind, the ground floor comprises a bright open plan living space with timber flooring and a fitted kitchen featuring shaker style units. Leading from the reception area is a well proportioned bedroom, a beautifully appointed shower room and an elegantly finished dressing room. The first floor is dedicated to a spacious principal bedroom with useful eaves storage to both sides.

Outside a gated driveway provides ample parking for numerous vehicles and leads to a useful garage store positioned to the front of the annexe. The landscaped gardens have been thoughtfully designed with attractive cottage style planting, creating colour and interest throughout the seasons. The swimming pool has been recently refurbished and provides a delightful setting for outdoor entertaining and summer enjoyment.

Occupying a picturesque setting, both properties enjoy a wonderful degree of privacy together with far reaching views across adjoining fields and open countryside, creating an idyllic rural backdrop.

A rare and highly versatile country home, combining significant historic charm with contemporary comfort, ideally suited to multi-generational living, guest accommodation or those seeking supplementary income potential.
