Description
Enjoying a location that gives great access to the coastline, Commodores House is perfectly positioned to enjoy the lifestyle that Thornham has to offer, and beyond. A village house, with the all important private parking, garage and gardens, it has a great scale too over three floors, making for a flexible layout to suit many living styles.
The ground floor hosts three of the five bedrooms. A wide entrance hall leads to the principal bedroom, with en suite shower room, a further double bedroom, and the third bedroom that also makes for a great study tucked away at the back of the house. There is a shower room and functional utility room, both of which are extremely practical for the ground floor given the likelihood of returning from a day on the beach or a long dog walk, and everyone needing a wash down. Also at the back of the house, looking out over the garden is a sitting room with plenty of glazing, and door providing direct access to the outside.
The main living space is on the first floor. A well fitted kitchen/breakfast room is the everyday hub of the house, benefitting from morning light. A separate dining room has an open plan feel, thanks to double doors opening to an impressive living room, filled with light thanks to a triple aspect, with plenty of windows along the western elevation and a corner window. This room is complete with a feature fireplace with electric fire. To complete the first floor there is a WC.
The stairs continue up to the second floor, with two spacious double bedrooms with dormer windows, and served by a bathroom in the middle. One of the bedrooms has a view between houses out to the coastline, a tantalising glimpse of what is close by. This layout works really well for anyone looking to host guests in their coastal home, or indeed is attractive for those wishing to holiday let.
Outside, the plot is entirely enclosed, making it very child and dog friendly. At the front of the house is an area of parking, with the drive continuing to the side of the house to the garage. At the front of the house, catching the afternoon and evening light, are lawns and flowerbeds. The main lawns are behind the house, bordered by red brick wall. There is a paved terrace, ideal for outside dining and entertaining.
The single garage is a brilliant asset for storing coastal kit, such as kayaks, bikes, kite surfing gear and buckets and spades of course.
Location
Thornham, on the famous Norfolk coastline, is a thriving village providing almost all the attributes of a coastal lifestyle. Firstly, the marshes, dunes and beaches are on your doorstep, as is direct access to the coastal path that leads you along the coastline. This coast is good for the soul, whether enjoying the peace of the surroundings, the beauty, or simply observing the wildlife whether rare or regularly seen. It has its own atmosphere. There are plenty of locations from which to sail from and appreciate it all from a different perspective.
One of the key reasons to Thornham’s popularity is what it provides on a day to day basis. At the heart of it all is the Thornham Deli, with its restaurant, deli counter, barista coffee, and lifestyle shop. There are three excellent public houses, The Lifeboat, The Orange Tree and The Chequers all of which are well regarded, and within the village are a cricket pitch, village tennis court and children’s play area.
On the edge of the village is Drove Orchards hosting a farm shop, Gurneys fish shop, the famous Erics fish & chips and Pizza, tapas bar, The Old Stores micro bakery and coffee shop, art gallery, antiques, and East coast Gelato. It is a real hive of activity to enjoy.
This stretch of coastline is renowned for its superb sailing at Brancaster Staithe, bird watching at all points, golf at Royal West Norfolk at Brancaster and a course at Old Hunstanton. There is a plethora of restaurants and gastro pubs locally. Burnham Market is 7 miles from the house, with an array of boutique independent shops, bakery, butchers, fishmongers and restaurants including Socius and Number 29.
The local and historic market town of Kings Lynn is about 18 miles, with main line rail service to London Kings Cross.
