The proportions are generous, the period detail is exceptional and, despite its size, the house still has a wonderfully warm and homely feel. Original and reclaimed features run throughout, including stained glass, intricate wall panelling, high skirting boards, ornate cornicing, period fireplaces and beautiful hardwood parquet flooring.
A reclaimed brick basket-weave driveway leads to the handsome Edwardian façade, with timber-framed sash windows, off-street parking and an EV charging point. There is a real sense of character before you have even stepped through the front door.
The ground floor has been designed brilliantly for family life. At the rear is the heart of the home: A fantastic open-plan kitchen, dining and living space overlooking the garden. The handmade kitchen has been crafted from reclaimed English Elm with Iroko worktops and an Aga, giving it plenty of personality without feeling overly polished or precious.
There is a large dining area for family meals and entertaining, alongside a comfortable seating space centred around a wood-burning stove. Hardwood-framed bifold doors open directly onto an Indian sandstone terrace and the landscaped garden beyond, so during the warmer months the whole space opens up beautifully.
Alongside the main kitchen is a second kitchen, which is a really useful addition for a house of this size. With direct side access to the garden, it works brilliantly as a prep kitchen when entertaining, for additional storage and cooking space, or simply for keeping the main kitchen clear when the house is busy. There is also a separate utility area, keeping the practical side of family life neatly tucked away.
Another particularly individual feature is the designated cigar room, a wonderfully atmospheric space and something you rarely come across in a family home. It creates a separate retreat away from the main living areas and could equally lend itself to use as a snug, reading room or private entertaining space depending on the next owner’s needs.
And then there is the garden room, a proper grown-up escape and a brilliant entertaining space. Fully set up with a pool table & darts, it is exactly the sort of room that friends and family will naturally gravitate towards. Whether used for watching the football, hosting friends or simply disappearing for an hour, it gives the house another layer of personality and fun.
At the end of the garden is another real highlight: A substantial summer house with its own bar and facilities. It is a brilliant additional space and could work equally well as a home office, gym, studio, teenage den or somewhere to entertain friends away from the main house.
Upstairs, the principal bedroom suite is quite special. It has been designed with a concealed walk-through wardrobe leading into a beautiful ensuite bathroom with an original fireplace, reclaimed Victorian washstand, roll-top bath, steam shower and Fired Earth pink rose marble.
There are four further bedrooms arranged across the upper floors, each with its own character, alongside beautifully finished bathrooms. A roof lantern above the staircase brings natural light through the centre of the house and adds to the wonderful sense of space.
What the owners have done particularly well is introduce all the things you want from a modern home without losing the character that makes an Edwardian house like this so appealing. There is underfloor heating across all three floors, discreet air conditioning, solar panels with a 10kW battery, Cat 6 cabling, Wi-Fi extenders, double-glazed timber sash windows and an EV charger. The result is an impressive EPC rating of B, which is quite an achievement for a house of this age and size.
The location is another big part of the appeal. Cranhurst Road is a handsome, established residential street within easy walking distance of Willesden Green, with its strong sense of community and excellent everyday amenities.
Willesden Green Underground Station is on the Jubilee Line in Zone 2, making journeys into Central London particularly easy. Cricklewood Thameslink is also accessible for connections towards St Pancras and further north, while the North Circular and Staples Corner are within easy reach for those travelling by car.
Willesden Green itself has become a great neighbourhood for independent food, coffee and local shopping. Gail’s sits opposite the station and there is a lovely mix of cafés, restaurants, bakeries and independent shops around Walm Lane and the High Road. Local favourites include Sanzio, Sushi Masa, Bottega di Anna, Walnut and Deli Beira, alongside useful everyday shops and supermarkets.
Gladstone Park is also close by and remains one of our favourite things about this part of North West London. With around 86 acres of green space, sports facilities, children’s play areas, walking routes and the Stables Café, it is somewhere local families can use properly rather than just admire from a distance.
Families are well catered for too, with a good selection of nurseries and schools across Willesden Green, Mapesbury, Brondesbury and the surrounding area, as well as straightforward routes towards many of the well-regarded independent schools in North and North West London.
More than anything, this is a proper family home. It is impressive without feeling showy, beautifully finished without being too precious, and has clearly been designed around how a family lives. There are spaces to be together, spaces to escape to, a wonderful garden and enough flexibility for the house to change as family life does.
A word from the owners:
“We have loved restoring the character of the house and creating somewhere that works just as well for everyday family life as it does when the house is full of friends and family. The kitchen and garden have always been the centre of life here, and we will really miss the community and everything that is within walking distance.”
