Owners Insight

"We bought Combe Mount through John Lake in 2017, when we moved back from Luxembourg after years abroad. We were looking for somewhere to enjoy our early retirement, and Combe Mount gave us everything we wanted, from beautiful sea and countryside views, and a semi-rural feel while still being on the periphery of Torquay, close enough for everything we need. The setting has been wonderful for us, with the South West Coast Path right on our doorstep for glorious walks, and Maidencombe Beach just a short stroll away. We have loved the peace and privacy of the garden, and the wonderful views the house enjoys throughout. It has been a very happy home for us, and we are only leaving now to be closer to family in Somerset. We know the next owners will love it just as much as we have."

Step Inside

High double entry gates open to the extensive drive, sweeping up tp the sheltered storm porch. The welcoming reception hall is central to the space, with the striking sitting room enjoying a curved glazed elevation and central French doors commanding wide views toward the sea at Lyme Bay. A log burning stove sits on a tiled hearth, with arched access to the dining room, where a bay window overlooks the private terrace. The kitchen is fitted with gloss white units and turquoise quartz worktops with inset sink, a Neff induction hob with filtered canopy, and a matching Neff double oven, plus integrated fridge, freezer and wine chiller. The breakfast area enjoys a roof light, with double doors to the garden room which is bathed in light from wide windows with top openers, and French doors leading to the garden. A utility off the kitchen accesses the side terrace where a store houses the boiler.

Bedrooms & Bathroom

To the entrance level are three spacious bedrooms, the principal suite having extensive mirror fronted wardrobes, dual aspect views of the garden, and a stylish ensuite shower room. Bedrooms two and three are comfortable doubles with garden views. The family bathroom enjoys a panelled bath and corner shower, WC and basin, with wainscot panelling and generous linen cupboard.

Step Upstairs

From the reception hall, the turned staircase rises to the first floor, where a particular feature of the property awaits. A beautiful bedroom suite with twin patio doors opening onto a private balcony commanding the finest views from the house, stretching over the surrounding area to Lyme Bay. The room is appointed with ample eaves and wardrobe storage, and an ensuite bathroom with bath and shower, plus a Velux window for natural light.

Step Outside

A particular attraction of Combe Mount is its extensive outside space, with the house set behind a high wall and twin high-gated driveway approach, offering exceptional driveway parking and a double garage with electric door. The gardens stretch around the property with a selection of lawns and an abundance of mature flowers, shrubs and specimen trees including Acer, palm and apple. To the rear of the plot is a further gated vehicular approach from Sladnor Park Road, where a greenhouse and timber shed sit within the back corner of the gardens. Stepped access leads toward the side terrace and on to the main terrace, situated above the garaging, providing a perfect space to relax, dine and take in the beautiful surroundings.
