Challock Village
Challock is a ridge top village on the ancient crossroads of the east-west Charing to Canterbury road the A252 and the north-south A251 from Ashford to Faversham. Ashford is 7 miles south through Boughton Lees. Faversham is 7 miles north through Badlesmere. The Challock Woods around the village were much changed in the October 1987 storm - one the historic properties in the area known by its Beech trees lost most of them but the upturned root “plates” revealed previously unknown tunnels and priest holes. This village sits in the Kent Downs National Landscape with views north across the rolling fields and woods towards the Thames Estuary, and south and east into the steep valleys of the escarpment down into the Stour river valley below.
