Lot 4 - 92.61 acres
A 24 acre lake, Pirton Pool is situated in the centre of this block with a number of islands and jetty. The rights to fish and take fish away from Pirton Pool are let on a commercial lease until 22 April 2032. The tenants have access from Worcester Road and a carparking area. There is some permanent pasture to the south extending to 38.53 acres, approximately 27.5 acres of woodland and 2.55 acres of miscellaneous areas.

The lake is bordered along the south-west by a line of mature cedars of Lebanon and lime trees, and mature oaks run along the south end of the south-east bank of the Pool. East and west of the south end of the Pool is permanent pasture with a scattering of parkland oak trees, with an area of partly ploughed-out ridge and furrow.

There is access from Worcester Road to the east.

History

Park Farm has a long history dating back to its time as part of the Croome Estate, home to the Coventry family until 1948.

The Coventry family became established in Worcestershire in the late 16th Century and became earls in 1697. The sixth Earl, who inherited the Estate in 1751 and died in 1809, was foremost among the ‘Earls of Creation’, who developed their estates under the influence of classical philosophies and the Grand Tour. His long tenure of the Croome Estate, of which Pirton Park formed a part, saw the full development of the landscape park around a rebuilt house, Croome Court, and Croome’s recognition as one of the greatest landscape creations of the age.

Lancelot Brown was employed there from 1750, rebuilding the house and laying out the park. Pirton Park (or the Fallow Deer Park), a medieval deer park, was landscaped by Brown in the mid-1760s, effectively as a satellite of what had become the main park at Croome, around the Court itself.

Pirton Park is noted for a pronounced ridge which runs from south-west to north-east, and along its crest, south-west of Pirton Pool, is a line of mature cedars of Lebanon, estimated to have been planted in the 1760s, interplanted with a few limes.
