Description
Plas Alltyferin is a handsome country house, thought to date early nineteenth century that is shown on the 1839 Tithe map. It is
set in about 104 acres of pasture land and woodland that runs down a valley to the River Cothi. The main house is Grade II
“Listed for its special architectural interest as a well-preserved late Georgian gentry house.” (Cadw).
To the rear of the house set around a traditional farm courtyard is an attractive range of stone farm buildings that include the stables, coach house and granary thought to date mid nineteenth century. These barns are also Grade II
“Listed as a nineteenth century farm building retaining original character and for its contribution to the setting of the house.” (Cadw).
These offer conversion potential to further accommodation/ other uses (subject to planning – stp). The house offers substantial accommodation space set over three floors (4,775 sq ft) retaining a wealth of character features. The property would make the perfect family home with room for an extended family. The south-facing property also offers possible tourism uses e.g. Country house let, boutique B&B, wedding venue etc (subject to any required planning). It enjoys a magical setting with landscaped grounds and gardens, extensive pasture land, with a good mix of grazing and croppable land, large areas of mature woodland and an idyllic backdrop with the River Cothi flowing along its southern boundary. The property enjoys far reaching and sweeping views over the Cothi and Towy valleys with Paxton’s Tower in the distance and it’s own Norman era Motte and Bailey Fort.
Accommodation Ground Floor
A welcoming portico entrance opens into the reception hall with a flagstone floor and doors opening off to the principal reception rooms. A door on the left opens into the living room with a large open fire with marble surround and double French doors that open off to the side garden. A door on the right of the hall opens into dining room with parquet wood floor and another large open fireplace providing a warm focal point. Both of these rooms enjoy excellent views across the front lawns, the ha-ha and the adjacent field that has hosted cricket matches since the 19th Century.
At the far end of the reception hall is a rear hall with a door on the left that opens into a study/library with a wood burning stove set in the corner. Also off this rear hall is a smaller study/office, cloakrooms, door to outside, utility rooms and garage. The kitchen breakfast room is located adjacent to the dining room and features the same impressive flagstone floor as the hallway, beamed ceiling, fitted cabinetry, an Aga range and double French doors that open out onto the front gardens to enjoy the views.
First Floor
The main staircase rises up from the reception hall to the first floor accommodation that includes a large and light landing area. There are three large double bedrooms on this floor that all enjoy views across the front gardens and over the fields beyond. The principal bedroom has an en suite bathroom with bath and separate shower, a second bedroom having an en suite shower room and the third having the use of an adjacent bathroom. A small study room completes the floor.
