Welcome to Old Headington! It's part of Headington, long ago consumed by Oxford. But once upon a time, 'Old' Headington was just 'Headington Village'
An extremely pretty village with Cotswold under tones, cottages with roses round the door and a community where everyone knew everyone else. Happily, that village still continues to thrive.
Of course, over the years, houses have been added but happily the planners have mainly kept to the traditional template and what we here is a great example of a sympathetic new build property with a traditional and attractive stone facade behind which is a charming, thoughtfully laid out two bedroom cottage with an extremely pretty rear garden and patio and yes, it's South facing!
My lovely vendor clients lived here for a few years, shortly after it was built and have now moved because of work commitments and the house is being sold 'chain free'... A big plus these days!
As always, the photos tell the story and it's quite clear that this lovely house has been extremely well looked after and actually has been redecorated throughout so the lucky buyer can move in with nothing really to do!
The downstairs is all open plan with a fully equipped kitchen, glazed double doors leading out to the garden and there's the all-important downstairs loo! Upstairs we have two double bedrooms, a really good size bathroom with a bath and a separate shower and the odd sloping ceiling - not too many but enough to replicate the cosy cottage vibe.
Outside, as mentioned we have this extremely pretty walled garden and a patio large enough to have a decent size dining table for those long Summer evenings when friends come round and you feel the need to have fun and/or impress!
So that's what the estate agent says, but what do the owners say? Well.... This:
"The Cottage in Old Headington was a dream place to live during our 10 years in Oxford. The beauty and tranquility of stepping into St Andrews Lane always brought us so much joy when returning home. The neighbours are wonderfully friendly, and there’s a real village feel, yet you’re just a short walk from Headington, which has everything you need, plus easy access to Oxford, London, and Heathrow. Both pubs at the top of the road are excellent and were a favourite with colleagues and friends. The house itself is modern and comfortable, which made an an easy living experience for us. It has had no issues in the 10 years we've lived there and seems to have been built well. One of our favourite things is sitting in the garden, watching the birds - it’s a peaceful retreat that we’ll really miss"
Location; we need to talk about this. As well as Old Headington being a delight to stroll through, importantly it is positoned very close - say, 10 minutes walk - to the John Radcliffe Hospital and so, is going to be great for anyone working there. We're also within easy walking distance of Headington itself which can comfortably be described as being a small town with everything that comes with it in terms of amenities - shops, schools etc. If, like me, you like a pub within easy staggering distance, we have the Black Boy and The White Hart, both excellent! Ruskin College is round the corner. In fact, around Headington, there really is an awful lot going on. For the more mundane but equally important information - schools, transport etc - please do click onto the 'Key Facts For Buyers' report which you will find in the photos section labelled 'virtual tour 1'. 'Virtual Tour 2' should be the video - worth a watch.
Worth a mention, still on the location, you're just minutes away from the main A40 (leading to the M40) taking you directly to London, the M25 and of course, Heathrow Airport. If you don't want to trave by car, a few minutes walk will take you to one of the many stops used by the 'London Tube' the direct London coach service going all the way into Victoria.
There you have it; 19A, St Andrews Lane, Old Headington, Oxford. It really is worth a viewing so please do call - i'm free most weekends as well if that helps. Speak soon!
