They are fine examples of the ‘random rubble’ style of stonework using locally quarried sandstone. At the time they were built there were more than 1500 people living in New Lanark and each Braxfield Row tenement would have housed as many as 80 people. Today Braxfield Row is home to just 10 families in large comfortable houses.
