Located in an elevated position to take advantage of the amazing views across much of the island's Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this spacious detached bungalow is on the market for the first time in more than 40 years. It is at the end of a small country lane and nestles in the midst of nearly an acre of immaculately maintained south facing grounds in a quiet and peaceful setting. The property is surrounded by countryside but is only a short stroll to the local shop and post office with a bus stop at the end of the lane.
It is set well back from the road and approached via a long drive flanked by a large front lawn. This leads to the detached garage and parking for numerous vehicles as well as to a substantial wooden building that currently includes a pool table.
Offering flexible accommodation this bungalow is currently configured with a lounge, dining room and four bedrooms including three doubles. There is a large, light and bright dual aspect lounge with a modern fire as a focal point and wide sliding doors to the terrace. The adjacent dining room also has patio doors to the terrace and heated swimming/splash pool that is 12ft by 24ft long and five foot deep. The well-equipped kitchen has attractive white units housing a variety of appliances including a hob and built-in double oven as well as a useful breakfast bar.
The smallest bedroom nearest the front door could always be used as an office for anyone working from home as it has built in shelving and is just opposite a shower room, so business visitors would not need to venture into the private part of the home. The good-sized principal bedroom has a modern inset fire while another double bedroom has a wall of mirror fronted sliding wardrobes. These rooms are serviced by the family bathroom.
Outside the terrace has steps up to the pool and a separate covered loggia for outdoor entertaining as well as a large rear lawn that back onto fields and is interspersed with shrub beds and trees. There is also a greenhouse and vegetable patch for those who want to ‘grow their own' and a wild garden area that is ideal for kids who want to play ‘hide and seek.'
What the Owner says:
This is been a wonderful family home since we moved here in 1980. When we first bought the bungalow, it hadn't been lived in for some time and needed a lot of tlc but we knew it was the place for us as it is in such a wonderful position. Over the years we have enjoyed upgrading it and even put in underfloor insulation. While it will be a wrench to leave it is time for me to downsize and move nearer my family.
Rookley is a friendly village and is only about three and a half miles from Newport. The village includes a lovely park where you can enjoy wonderful walks. It also has a pub/restaurant while there is also the Chequers nearby. Blackwater is the next village and is also very charming. It includes a useful farm shop and an historic mill. Being near the centre of the island, we find it easy to get to most places including the ferry ports and Newport. This county town includes a variety of high street stores and independent shops as well as a wide selection of restaurants and bars. There is a weekly street market and a farmers' market and a number of primary and secondary schools within the vicinity. We are not far from the Shide Nature Reserve and the walks or cycle rides along the River Medina are a real pleasure while the Newport Golf Club is available for golfing enthusiasts.
