A rare opportunity to purchase 'Birdsong', a substantial detached seven-bedroomed house with considerable additional accommodation with income potential, plus large driveway, delightful, large kitchen garden all within approximately 1 acre. Stunning setting, with incredible panoramic views.
Birdsong sits proudly at the end of its private drive and is located in the heart of the hugely popular Lakeland town, Keswick, to the edge of Derwentwater and at the start of the stunning Borrowdale Valley. Surrounded by the Lakeland Fells, offering outstanding walking opportunities in all directions and for all levels of ability. The property sits in just under one acre and really does have to be seen to be believed for the views in every direction – to the front it takes in Maiden Moor, Cat Bells, Causey Pike, Barrow and Grizedale Pike and even has glimpses of Derwentwater. The private, enclosed rear garden is equally impressive, with breathtaking views of Blencathra, Latrigg, Skiddaw, Dodd and St John’s Church spire, amongst others. The house itself oozes charm and offers privacy, peace and relaxation.
The private driveway has ample parking for up to 12 cars and room for boats, caravans or camper-vans. The front is laid to lawn, with a former pond area, ready to be re-opened. There is a double hedge enclosure and space for garages (with relevant planning permission).
To the rear there is a veranda/decking with awning and covered area leading onto the sunny aspect garden which boasts slate patios, outside power points and a very unique garden which contains – but is not limited to – 4 x covered compost-bays, 2 x apple trees, a plum tree, a pear tree and a fully enclosed kitchen-garden (with 3 gated access points) consisting of: A 25x10ft polytunnel, a 6x3.5m walk-in ‘Wonderwall’ brassica-cage, a 7.5x2.5m fruit-cage, an 8x6ft greenhouse, a purpose-built cold frame, a variety of raised beds, water-butts and water-taps.
In other parts of the stunning garden there are: 3 x timber sheds on raised decking, a pergola (“Tibetian-flag-walk-experience”), a book-shelter, lawn with firepit in the centre, the “Zen Den” (fully functional, heated meditation room), raised decking with swing-seat, log-store, parking for ride-on mower (included in sale), and hard-standing to the side – plenty of potential for camper-van parking or a carport.

“Life at Birdsong is amazing... And it all has to be contributed to the amazing views, from every window in the house! (Well, except for the downstairs toilets...oh, and the sauna!)
Not one day goes by where one of us is not calling another to come and look at a unique sky. The views constantly change both day and night. The colours on the fells are spectacular and the night-stars are mesmerising, as there is very little light pollution.
No one to overlook us as we enjoy breakfast/lunch/dinner and of course drinks on the decking whilst we are transported to the ‘holiday-feeling’, soaking-in the ambiance of the space and freedom. It really sets us up for work, pleasure and the reality of ‘life’s challenges’.
Birdsong’s location is perfect ... Everything is within walking distance! The town is just 5 minutes, as is the lake and in 10 minutes you can be on top of Castle Head! It is like having the convenience of a town house, but with the sense of being far into the countryside.
There are neighbours within a stone’s throw either side, so there is always someone to help when in need and to keep an eye out for us when we are on holiday. Both sets of neighbours are lovely people and the kind of neighbours everyone longs for - friendly, helpful, and sociable but no one lives in each other’s pockets.
When we bought Birdsong, it was absolutely the location and views that sold it to us. In our opinion it is the best house in Keswick, and we will be sad to leave it, but we are off on our next adventure!”
