With parts dating back to the seventeenth century and later Victorian additions, this charming family home has been updated and tastefully improved by the current owners.
Located in the heart of the popular and highly regarded village of Offord Darcy, with excellent schools and transport links to Huntingdon and St Neots.
The ground floor consists of a large kitchen/breakfast room, living room, family room, snug, office cloakroom and utility.
Upstairs are five bedrooms and a smart, modern family bathroom. There are three further attic rooms which offer excellent additional living space or storage.
Outside are a range of outbuildings which include a games room and bar and a workshop. The generous gardens are laid mainly to lawn and are an excellent space to relax and play.
“We were moving out of London and it was the village location that initially attracted us. The house had lots of character features that we really liked too, including a big inglenook fireplace and generously sized rooms both upstairs and downstairs. We knew that it would be a bit of a project, but we were excited by the potential and couldn’t wait to get started, ” recall the current owners.
“We’ve made many enhancements to the property but perhaps the biggest change has taken place in the kitchen. We received permission to move it into a better position within the house and it has worked brilliantly for us as it’s now the heart of the home. It’s dual aspect so it’s always bright and sunny and our guests naturally gravitate here.”
“The changes continued outside as we overhauled the garden into the family-friendly and interesting space that it is today. We created a natural area to attract wildlife, as well as planting fruit trees that will mature into a little orchard. We also grow our own vegetables in the kitchen garden. The house and garden are perfect for entertaining as the large decked area is the ideal spot for parties and BBQs. We’ve celebrated our son’s first birthday party with guests in the garden and, as our friends are scattered all over the country, they will often come and stay for the weekend. We converted the old stables into a games and entertaining space with a pool table and mini bar which is really useful when the weather is not so nice.”
“The village is lovely and offers plenty of opportunities to get out and walk in the surrounding countryside across the fields and along the river. We enjoy easy access to St Neots which is an up and coming market town with some interesting little shops and cafes. We’re also very lucky to have an excellent pub in the village that serves great food. Sunday lunches have to be booked well in advance and the beer garden is lovely in the summer. There’s a great sense of community here with lots of events taking place, including the annual Beer Festival and regular film nights at the village hall.”
“We’ve loved living here in the house and village where we have felt settled and part of the friendly community, ” conclude the current owners.
