Bridge Terrace is a pretty row of Georgian cottages believed to have been built in the 1760's at the start of the Industrial Revolution. As the name suggests, the cottage is situated on the Western side of the River Exe, accessed by a little footpath from the end of the bridge. This is a lovely position, slightly elevated above the river and within easy reach of all the services, clubs and entertainment the town has to offer.
Originally part of a larger property, the cottage has managed to retain a great deal of character and notably the original entrance hall and impressive stairwell. The original bell pull makes your arrival known and the welcoming front door opens to reveal an appealing reception area that invites you inside. This is the perfect place to hang your coats and kick off your shoes. The sitting room is a cosy space with a cast iron gas fired stove that offers out the warmth of the real thing but without the hassle of cutting logs and hauling them inside! Sash windows with casement shutters add to the delightful character of this lovely home.
Wander through into the kitchen / dining room and the welcoming atmosphere continues. There is plenty of space for a large dining table and chairs and the room has a lovely old 'Stanley' solid fuel range for added warmth and cooking if required. To one corner is a little 'snug' which is currently used as an office. The kitchen area offers plenty of storage and space and plumbing for a washing machine and a dishwasher.
Take the grand staircase up to the first floor where two double bedrooms, a single bedroom, the bathroom and a dressing room are found. The bedrooms to the front of the cottage enjoy a pleasant view over the river. The bathroom has some character with a claw footed roll top bath, a high level 'Victorian' WC with a lovely wooden seat and access into the dressing room.
Outside, the garden is to the front of the cottage and offers a surprisingly secluded and sheltered area. A very useful block built store and workshop is found here, within which is a little wood burner. This is a great space that could be a home office, gym or a hobby room. A door to the rear opens to give a lovely view of the river - a perfect place to relax and watch the wildlife drift by.
All in all, this is a wonderful property and for those that love a bit of character, this one is sure to please you!
