Thinking back some 28 years, the current owner of The Oaks acknowledges it was a combination of factors that drew her family to the Quakers Yard home. "It was originally built to an individual design." she says. "It was very light, with spacious rooms and was also right on the edge of the village, enjoying the most incredible tranquillity. "This is exactly the kind of home and location that would appeal to someone who is either relocating or moving back after spending some time away, " she suggests.
Built in 1990, the house has been updated and reconfigured by the current owners. The kitchen has been opened up to create one bright family space. "This made it a much more open-plan living space, with a seating area. It opens up into the conservatory, creating one big area, where everyone can spend time together." The house is redecorated regularly, offering a comfortable mixture of the classical and the contemporary. "The kitchen which is very well designed in modern cream high gloss with wooden effect surfaces and integrated appliances.
The Oaks has proved to be extremely flexible, lending itself to being used in varying ways over the years. "We have changed the layout internally since moving here and have adapted how we have used the space, " she explains. "One room was a bedroom, for example, then became a formal dining room." With a choice of three reception rooms, there is always somewhere to spread out into. "There are individual places for people to retire to if they wish to pursue their hobbies and there are rooms that are good for entertaining.
Over the years there have been many happy occasions at the house. "We have had some lovely Christmas's with friends and family, and in the summer months we have had some great barbecues, with the French doors open out onto the rear garden." It is a house that also lends itself well to year-round living: "Whichever room you go into the sun streams in at some point in the day.
Many of the rooms take in the beautiful views of the gardens. All three bedroom can house king size beds.
The setting of The Oaks has given the couple such pleasure in their time at the property. In recent times it has been landscaped to offer different areas for sitting out and soaking up the sun. "There are places to be in the shade or in the sunshine, to have a barbecue or dinner outside. We have had many family celebrations in the garden, often sitting out until gets quite dark.
Excellent location The Oaks has given the family good access to major towns and cities, as well as to the magnificent Brecon Beacons. They only have to step outside to go walking or cycling and enjoy heading down to the Taff Trail or to nearby parks.
