Borough, in postcode SE1, in the London Borough of Southwark is one of the oldest parts of London, and has become an increasingly popular Southbank quarter. It is home to the famous Borough Food Market, which is steeped in history is also referred to as Londons Larder. The area is popular with city professionals due to its proximity to the city and the good transport links. Running south from the southern end of London Bridge, Borough High Street winds its way down to the junction of Harper Road and Borough Road, not far north of Elephant and Castle. It's a busy street, with plenty of shops and cafés. If you enjoy shopping you could visit Hays Galleria near London Bridge or Gabriels Wharf, which mainly caters for fashion, jewellery and home accessories. The Elephant & Castle has an indoor shopping mall and street market. Additionally the West End is close-by for serious shopping. SE1 is diverse in terms of the people who live there, and it has a great deal of culture, being the home of South Bank with all its concert halls, theatres and galleries. There are few open spaces in Borough, although there are a few small park areas notably Jubilee Gardens and Gerald Mary Harmsworth Park, which is near to the Imperial War Museum.

Waterloo Station and London Bridge Station are both major London intersections for the suburban rail network, covering all of south London and the Home Counties. The area of SE1 is also well served by a number of bus routes.
