DESCRIPTION
A
private location looking down to the River Ebble is a perfect setting for this
charming detached cottage thought to be the oldest property in the village. The Meadens is believed to date from the
early 16th Century and the massive cruck beams are a sign of its early
traditional construction, the remaining house is completed with brick elevations
on a stone plinth under a thatched roof.
It has been home to the present owners for nearly 15 years. In the early 1990's they added a
cleverly designed extension which was also thatched and merges beautifully with
the original cottage.
The
cottage has been meticulously maintained and beautifully presented throughout
and the accommodation comprises of a large light drawing room and a spacious traditional
beamed dining room which opens into
the kitchen/breakfast room which was
refitted in 2006. A cloakroom and generous entrance hall completes the ground
floor accommodation. Upstairs there
are four bedrooms (three doubles and
a single) and two separate
bathrooms. The Meadens is
conveniently well situated and spacious enough to be an excellent family house
but also private and tranquil enough to be a lovely weekend retreat or
retirement home.
DISTANCES
SITUATION

OUTSIDE
The Meadens is approached down a quiet, no-through lane at the bottom
of which, a five-bar gate opens into a generous gravel forecourt, which provides
lots of parking and turning space and access to the garage and front door to the
cottage. Beyond the forecourt, the
cottage is surrounded by lovely mature gardens, which are mainly laid to lawn
and sweep down to a bend in the River Ebble. The cottage is in an elevated position
at the top of the gardens and so it enjoys a lovely view across the gardens to
the river. Also at the top of the
garden, just off the forecourt is a productive well kept fenced kitchen garden
with a greenhouse. The quiet position at the end of a no-through lane means that
the cottage and gardens can be enjoyed with a high degree of privacy.
