North Fambridge is in eastern Essex, with main approaches from South Woodham Ferrers, Chelmsford or Maldon. Ideally located within a few minutes drive to the River Crouch which was a popular haunt for smugglers in the mid 1700's to the mid 1800's. Cargoes, such as oysters from the Crouch were carried for sale to France, with brandy, making a profitable cargo for the return trip. Today, the Crouch is popular with the sailing enthusiast. Burnham on Crouch, is the capital of this picturesque area, much of which is unchanged since its listing in the Doomsday Book and is best know as the yachting centre hosting the internationally famous Burnham Week.
