Helston is a historic market town with a broad main street featuring many attractive period properties. There are a whole host of charming shops to explore as well as good business facilities. The location is ideal for access to the stunning Lizard Peninsula which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, embodying all the qualities that entice people to Cornwall. Warmed by the Gulf Stream, and usually enjoying frost-free winters, blessed with stunning beaches and crystal clear blue waters, it provides some of the best surfing, fishing and diving in England. The Peninsula's western edge from Porthleven to Lizard Point is a Heritage Coast and the spectacularly rugged Southwest Coastal Path can take you all the way from The Lizard to Porthleven passing through remote and popular beaches such as Gunwalloe, Mullion and the famous Kynance Cove. On the eastern side, more sheltered and protected from the prevailing wind, lie family orientated areas such as Cadgwith, Coverack, St. Anthony, and of course the Helford River. The Helford River Sailing Club with its sailing and mooring opportunities is within easy reach.
The historic and colourful port of Falmouth lies about 12.9 miles away with its beaches and yachting facilities surrounding one of the deepest natural harbours in the word. The Cathedral City of Truro, about 17.7 miles from "Newham House", provides excellent shopping and commercial facilities, private schooling, together with a main line service to London Paddington. Newquay Airport provides regular flights to both London and many other European destinations. The Truro area is very well served with both state and private schools for all ages, including Polwhele House Preparatory School, Truro School, Truro High School, while Cornwall University campus is within 4 miles drive away from the City.

Description

Newham House is a beautiful residence thought to have been built in 1811 for John Mitchell who was a Mine Captain. The house was designed for staff in service with a man-servants room on the first floor and there is still a service bell in situ. The house has been lovingly updated and improved by the current owner and is a fine example of this classic style of property. A Victorian conservatory provides access to two doorways, the main and secondary and an entrance hallway featuring an attractive staircase to the first floor.
The dining room faces the garden. The drawing room is a most delightful room with a broad bay window flooding the room with light. The kitchen has been recently refitted with new bespoke Shaker style units with granite work tops and features the Aga and a flagstone slate floor. A hallway leads on past the servants stairs to the spacious dual aspect sitting room and the well designed study. On the first floor there is an attractive split level landing and a tall arch topped window. On one side are two generous bedrooms one of which interconnects to bedroom three and a bathroom. At the opposite end of the landing is bedroom three and to the rear is the fourth bedroom and a bathroom. A further short staircase leads to a charming bedroom served by its own bathroom.
GARDENS & GROUNDS
The property is approached along a drive way that borders the land and provides lovely views to the countryside and leads to the rear where there is an exit to a back lane and some timber outbuildings. Below the family room is an open cobbled area where the well is situated and beyond is a pretty cottage. To the side of the house is an original greenhouse and a pathway leads to the stunning garden with wisteria trailing over the front of the house. The gardens are a real joy with a huge selection of mature specimen rhododendrons, camellias and other shrubs. There is a level lawn ideal for croquet and below is a charming walled kitchen garden with the remains of the original outbuildings surrounding. A paddock provides access to the bluebell woods with a pretty walk through its centre.
