The village of Llandinam lies on the A470 half way between Llanidloes and Newtown and two miles up the River Severn from the village of Caersws. Set against a backdrop of rolling hills and a patchwork of fields, Llandinam has won the title of best kept village in Powys on several occasions owing to its beautifully preserved old buildings, numerous floral displays and magnificent gardens. The Iron Age hill fort of Cefn Carnedd overlooks the village and it was there the Romans and Celts fought their last great battle. In the early 6th century, a Celtic monastery was founded at Llandinam by St Llonio and became the Mother Church for many of the surrounding parishes. In more recent times Llandinam was the birthplace of David Davies, a great 19th century industrialist and entrepreneur whose statue is near Llandinam Bridge, the first iron bridge constructed in the county.
