In Brecon Beacons National Park, to the south of Black Mountains, is the thriving market town of Crickhowell, lying in the beautiful valley of the River Usk. Crickhowell has many notable buildings including the Bear Hotel, a former coaching inn with original cobblestones in the courtyard and a high entrance archway to accommodate horse-drawn carriages. There is also a truly picturesque 16th century bridge which has twelve arches one side and thirteen arches on the other.

Transport in Crickhowell

Crickhowell is on the A40 between Abergavenny and Brecon. The railway station in Abergavenny is about nine miles south of Crickhowell and is on the Cardiff, Newport, Hereford line with links to Swansea and Fishguard in Wales, and to Worcester, Birmingham and London. There is a bus every 90 minutes that travels between Abergavenny and Brecon.
