Milford Haven was developed in the late 18th Century by Quakers from Nantucket as a whaling port. Later described by Lord Nelson in 1802 as being "one of the finest harbours seen" it developed in the early part of the 20th Century as an important base for the fishing industry. Today the harbour is an expanding marina with over 200 berths. Milford Haven is the largest town at the extreme end of South West Wales, with a population of just under 14,000. Local estate agents in Milford Haven say the town is the target for major regeneration. Milford Haven Waterway and Pembroke Dock are currently undergoing redevelopment, with a further £100m investment in "Martello Quays", which will include 300 marina berths, 250 houses and 200 apartments, plus a hotel, a multiplex cinema, pubs, restaurants and shops. And because of all the regeneration, quality new homes in Milford Haven are increasingly in demand.
