Beaumaris is a medieval town at the north-eastern end of the Menai Strait on the Island of Anglesey. Its historic castle dates from the 13th century and is a great unfinished masterpiece. It was built to stamp England’s authority over the Welsh, but money and supplies ran out before the fortifications were completed. Nevertheless, Beaumaris castle is a truly awesome sight with ingenious, concentric walls-within-walls which have earned it World Heritage status.

Estate agents in Beaumaris represent a good selection of two and three-bedroom properties such as 19th century artisan terraced houses and classic Welsh, single-storey cottages. Property for sale in Beaumaris also includes multi-storey Victorian townhouses, contemporary detached bungalows and spacious post-war houses, often set within a couple of acres of garden.

Amenities for property in Beaumaris

Baumaris has many historic buildings including the 14th century Church of St Mary, a medieval gaol and courthouse, and the 15th century Bull’s Head Inn in which General Thomas Mytton made his headquarters during the siege of Beaumaris in the English Civil War. Beaumaris has a couple of local primary schools and Beaumaris Grammar School, which was founded in 1603. Now a comprehensive, it is located in Menai Bridge and only the ancient hall of the original school building remains. Beaumaris Pier opened in 1846 and extends 570 feet. It is a busy base for yachts and pleasure boats, but plans for a marina that won’t be affected by the tide have recently been approved. Beaumaris has a good selection of shops, restaurants and pubs and there are two golf courses within a mile of the centre.

The railway station in Llanfairpwll is about seven miles from Beaumaris and is on the Holyhead – Chester mainline. By car, Beaumaris is on the A545, five miles from Menai Bridge.
