Innerleithen has wide open streets lined with beautiful red sandstone buildings, constructed during Innerleithens heyday as a mill and spa town. Innerleithen Parish Church is one of the many impressive buildings in the heart of the town, which also has a few independent shops, pubs and restaurants. There are 2 primary schools within the Innerleithen area and for secondary education children travel to Peebles High School. Surrounding Innerleithen are forests, golf courses and plenty of trout and salmon in the River Tweed. A mile south of Innerleithen is Traquair House, which was built in 1695 and is still lived in. Much of the beautiful, white house is open to the public including the library, the King's Room, the chapel, a series of cellars that originally housed livestock, and the delightful garden with its enormous maze. There is also a restaurant and a brewery.

Innerleithen lies on the A72, 10 miles west of Galashiels and 6 miles east of Peebles. The railway station in Innerleithen closed many years ago but First Traveller offers a good bus service.
