The village of Kirknewton lies on the B7031, south of the A71 and north of the Pentland Hills. Kirknewton is surprisingly rural although the village is only 5 miles from the A720, Edinburgh ring road, and 3 miles from Livingston town centre. Main Street Kirknewton evokes a sense of bygone days with its long line of one and two storey stone-built houses. The original Kirknewton House was built in the early 1600s and some of the headstones in the kirkyard date from the 1700s. Today, if you are looking for property for sale in Kirknewton there are terraced and detached houses offering 3 bedrooms; and new-build, country-style houses offering 4 bedrooms. Estate agents in Kirknewton also represent much older properties that only occasionally come to market, in what is a charming and popular village. For details of any flats for sale in Kirknewton and for information regarding all available houses, please contact Kirknewton estate agents.

Amenities for Kirknewton properties

The Pentland Hills rise a few miles south of Kirknewton and are enjoyed by hill-walkers and mountain-bikers. During World War II the Royal Air Force built an airfield at Whitemoss, a mile south-east of Kirknewton. In 1952 it was taken over by the United States Air Force and in 1966 it became home to a few private aircraft and a gliding school. For children’s education, Kirknewton has a nursery, a primary and a first school, complemented by neighbouring Livingston’s 4 high schools. Livingston also has most of the amenities that are not available in Kirknewton, such as large retail parks and a Vue multiscreen cinema.

Transport in Kirknewton

At the west end of the village is the railway station in Kirknewton which is on the line between Glasgow Central and Edinburgh. By bus, there are services from Kirknewton to Livingston, Bathgate, and to Edinburgh.
