Balerno is a town of 6,500 residents, south-west of Edinburgh. Its a thriving community that retains the feel of a small town with beautiful countryside on its doorstep. The turnpike road in the 18th century encouraged people to settle in Balerno, and abundant water supplies from Pentland Hills powered the paper, flax, and barley mills.
