Property, Houses and Flats for Sale in Lauder, Berwickshire

Property for sale in Lauder

Lying on the edge of the Lammermuir Hills, on the Southern Upland Way, Lauder retains a traditional medieval street layout but enjoys the amenities of a small, modern town. Through the centre of Lauder passes the A68 Edinburgh road and Lauder is about 40 minutes by car from the capital. Lauder has a broad Market Place which is divided by Mid Row, a line of buildings with Lauder Town Hall at the north end. Built in the early 1600s, it is an impressive building that has been used as a tollbooth, town jail, and council chamber. Near the Town Hall is the remarkable octagonal tower of Lauder Old Church which dates from 1590. To the east of town is the estate wall of Thirlestane Castle; open to the public, it has been occupied by the Maitland family for over 400 years.

Property for sale in Lauder can be limited but there are wonderful stone-built rural cottages and detached houses set in mature gardens, complemented by new-build family houses with 4 or 5 bedrooms and double garages. For details of any flats for sale in Lauder and for information regarding all available cottages and houses, please contact Lauder estate agents.
