West Kilbride is a small town, four miles north-west of Ardrossan on the Firth of Clyde. After 1998 West Kilbride promoted itself as Scotland's 'Craft & Design Town', the aim being to increase awareness of contemporary craft and design throughout North Ayrshire whilst regenerating the Main Street, and creating new employment opportunities, with other jobs created indirectly in tourism services in the surrounding area. The town's aim to gain recognition for this achievement was endorsed by the Scottish Parliament in 2000.
