Property for sale in Girvan
Originally a fishing port and now a seaside resort, Girvan is a burgh in Carrick with a population of about 8,000. Encircled by the Galloway Hills and the Firth of Clyde, Girvan harbour offers one of the few safe havens along this stretch of coastline and, together with the arrival of the railway from Glasgow in the mid 19th century, has contributed to the town's commercial success. Girvan's appeal is timeless and people still wander around the busy harbour and watch the local fishing fleet come and go. In summer it is possible to sail around the tiny island of Ailsa Craig on the world's last sea-going paddle steamer, the Waverley.

Amenities for Girvan properties
Girvan Golf Course is immediately to the north of Girvan and 5 miles further up the coast is the world-famous Turnberry golf course. Girvan's beaches attract many visitors in summer and there are remarkable views north-west across the Firth of Clyde to the craggy skyline of Arran and 10 miles west to the dome of Ailsa Craig, rising 1,114ft above the sea. Local attractions within Girvan include a boating lake and Auld Stumpy, an attractive clock tower built in 1827 and later incorporated into the Mcmaster Hall. The hall burned down in 1939, leaving Auld Stumpy as it was always meant to be.
