Famous for its White Horse hill carving on the western edge of Salisbury Plain, Westbury is a very old town with evidence of inhabitants from the Iron and Bronze ages. The railway station in Westbury is on the main Plymouth to London Paddington route, with direct services to London taking around 90 minutes. Other routes to London Paddington involve changing at stations in Bath Spa and/or Swindon. There are also frequent train services to Bristol, Salisbury, Southampton and Portsmouth and limited services to Yeovil, Dorchester and Weymouth. The branch line from Chippenham to Westbury via stations in Melksham and Trowbridge is currently under threat of closure.
By road, Westbury is on the A350, about twenty-five miles south of Junction 17 of the M4.
