Hebden Bridge is 8 miles west of Halifax, at the confluence of the River Calder and Hebden Water, and has a local population of approximately 4,700. Steep hills and fast flowing streams meant that Hebden Bridge was ideal for water powered weaving mills, but it was the construction of the Rochdale Canal and the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway that attracted industry and workers to the town.
