Saxmundham is an historic market town at the centre of Suffolk's heritage coastal region. Saxmundham, or 'Sax' as it is known locally, has many shops and businesses, sports and leisure facilities, as well as good road and rail links. In recent years, Saxmundham has been undergoing renovations in the High Street and many new houses are being built on the fringes of town. The name Saxmundham is Saxon for "Seizmond's home" and the town is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. It earned its Charter to hold a market in 1272 and the market continues to this day.

If you are looking for property for sale in Saxmundham there is a good mix of old and new such as two and three-bedroom Victorian terraced cottages, late 20th century bungalows, and modern terraced and semi-detached houses. If you require four or more bedrooms, estate agents in Saxmundham represent new-build townhouses and detached houses; and in more rural locations, substantial houses from a range of periods, often set in large, mature gardens.

Amenities for property in Saxmundham

Saxmundham is five miles from the beach in an area known for its outstanding beauty and rich wildlife. The RSPB has one of its most famous nature reserves in neighbouring Minsmere, a beautiful wetland area with a huge range of birds, including marsh harriers. In winter, the shallow lagoons attract many wading birds and waterfowl such as black-tailed godwits, wigeons, and teals. Saxmundham is a sleepy town with a supermarket, a few independent shops, and a Primary and Middle school; but within a few miles is Leiston, which has the oldest cinema in Suffolk, major banks and shops, and a High school which serves the general area. Saxmundham is also close to the beautiful seaside resort of Aldeburgh, with its flourishing yacht club; cafés, pubs, restaurants and art galleries, and world-famous music festival.
