The name Burntwood or 'Brendewode' comes from when heathland was burned to create usable land, east of Cannock Forest near the village of Hammerwich. Today, Burntwood consists of six suburbs: Boney Hay, Chase Terrace, Chasetown, Gorstey Lea, Burntwood Green and Chasewater Reservoir.
