Situated between Lichfield and Cannock and due north of Walsall, Burntwood expanded in the 19th century through coalmining. The name Burntwood or 'Brendewode' comes from when heathland was burned to create usable land, east of Cannock Forest near the village of Hammerwich. Today, Burntwood consists of six suburbs: Boney Hay, Chase Terrace, Chasetown, Gorstey Lea, Burntwood Green and Chasewater Reservoir. These suburbs have plenty of trees, parks and green spaces and, although some of the shopping centres are typical 1970s, Burntwood is a town that is popular with families and has reasonably priced properties.
Houses for sale in Burntwood include 20th century terraced and semi-detached three-bedroom houses, new-build detached family houses often as part of a modern development, and executive style houses offering five or more bedrooms. Estate agents in Burntwood also represent a few period houses on the fringes of town, usually set in delightful rural and semi-rural locations.
