Cheddar is a picturesque village on the edge of the Mendip Hills and is part of a unique landscape which includes the largest gorge in Britain, Cheddar Gorge, the highest inland limestone cliffs in Britain, the Gorge Cliffs, and the biggest underground river in Britain, Cheddar Yeo, which is in Gough's Cave. Of course, Cheddar is most famous for having given its name to the popular cheese, although only one producer remains in the village itself. Cheddar is also a producer of strawberries, hence the popular name for the Strawberry Line railway that ran from Yatton to Wells past the strawberry fields. The line is now a cycle path alongside Cheddar Reservoir, a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest owing to its population of wintering waterfowl.
