Bridgwater is the leading industrial town in Somerset and is situated between Junctions 23 and 24 of the M5. Local industry includes plastics, engine parts, industrial chemicals, and foods. Planning permission was granted in January 2007 for the construction of 1,460 new homes south of Bridgwater. Part of the development includes the provision of over 500 “affordable” houses with the first houses built before the end of 2007.
