Ludlow, in the county of Shropshire, is a thriving market town with a lively community feel. The town is surrounded by the unspoilt and beautiful hilly countryside of south Shropshire and the Welsh border country, known as the Welsh Marches. Ludlow was once described by John Betjeman as “England’s finest town”, and more recently by Country Life Magazine as “England’s finest market town”. Local estate agents in Ludlow say the town has gained a reputation as one of the most sought after areas to live, with a growing number of buyers who are seeking a weekend retreat in this delightful town. The range and styles of properties for sale in Ludlow is extensive, and include Grade II timber framed houses, Georgian town houses, pretty period cottages, spacious detached family houses with large gardens and a wide variety of bungalows. Many of the houses for sale in Ludlow benefit from either having views of the famous castle, of the local countryside and some are located close to the River Terne.

Amenities for properties in Ludlow

Like most of the listed buildings in Ludlow, the Castle has been pressed into sympathetic modern use – it remains very much a working building, acting as the town’s mediaeval equivalent of the NEC or Olympia. If you are considering Ludlow property you will discover there is almost always something going on: regular festivals that take place in the Norman castle; a speciality market in the town square or, in the season, National Hunt racing. Not to mention all the good eating available, including Michelin-starred restaurants. Ludlow is very much a live market town combining ‘living history’ with the best aspects of the modern world and provides its residents with schools, a sports ground, a leisure centre and a good selection of individual shops.

Transport for Ludlow

Ludlow has a train station on the main Manchester to Cardiff line, with trains operating to London operating at regular intervals, changing once at Newport. By road, the town is on the A49 trunk road, close to Junction 3 off the M5 motorway.
