Property for sale in Berwick-upon-Tweed
Berwick-upon-Tweed, England's most northerly town sits midway between Edinburgh and Newcastle at the mouth of the River Tweed. This historic border market town changed hands between England and Scotland no less than 14 times between its first capture by the Scots (around 1018) and its eventual retaking by the English in 1482. Local estate agents in Berwick-upon-Tweed say it is considered to be one of the most picturesque towns on the region's coast, mainly because of its attractive red roofed houses, pinkish grey Georgian buildings and location at the mouth of the River Tweed. When it comes to searching for property for sale in Berwick-upon-Tweed, the fast train services to Newcastle and Edinburgh put a premium on properties within a short walk of the railway station. Castle Terrace and the surrounding streets attract high-earning commuters, but anywhere within the old town walls is well placed for the station. If you need to commute south by road towards Newcastle, the Tweedmouth and Spittal areas, which are just across the river from the main town, offer some better-value properties.
