Northampton is a large market town situated in the English East Midlands region, 67 miles (108 km) north of London. The population of the town is about 190,000, making it the 21st largest settlement and 3rd largest town in England.
Northampton was traditionally famous for shoemaking, though this industry has virtually vanished from the town. It now mainly specialises in distribution and finance; Barclaycard, for example, employs a great number of people in Northampton.
Northampton's population has increased significantly over the last 50 years, largely due to expansion, the M1 motorway, and its proximity to London. Further expansion has taken place to the east of the town, with recent developments on the western outskirts at Upton, as well as to the south, adjacent to an improved junction on the M1 at Grange Park. As a result, many people are taking interest in property for sale in Northampton.
