Teddington is considered to be the epitome of comfortable.

Living in Teddington

Nestling along the River Thames between Kingston and Richmond, Teddington offers an oasis of both town and country life.

Teddington's properties include waterfront developments, handsome family homes and suburban mid-war houses. The best place to find premium flats is close to the station, and there are the highly sought after Edwardian mansion flats above the shops.

Families move to the area for the good state and private schools, green spaces, the riverside, frequent trains to Waterloo, and the town's proximity to Heathrow and Gatwick airports.

Other residents include West Londoners in search of more space and City bonus types.

The High Street, bordered by the Thames and Teddington Lock on one side and on the other by Bushey Park, inhabited by deer, kingfishers and parakeets, has become a little Chelsea in Middlesex.

The huge redundant St Alban's Church, built in the style of a French cathedral, marks the riverside start of the High Street. Residents saved it from developers, and in its new role as the Landmark Arts Centre you can buy a sculpture and listen to jazz.

Transport

Trains from Teddington Station run to Shepperton, Wimbledon, Waterloo and beyond.

A number of bus routes provide easy access to Hampton Court, Heathrow, Kew Gardens, Kingston, Richmond and Surbiton.

By road, the M4, M3 and M25 are all nearby; whilst London's major airports are also close at hand.

History and culture

There are several places in and around Teddington that are worthy of attention. Teddington's canal and three locks - Skiff Lock, Old Lock and Barge Lock - are frequented by weekend strollers.

Teddington Lock is where the Thames ceases to be tidal, providing a quiet place to sit and while away the time amongst the boats.

Just down the road is Hampton Court Palace and Hampton Court Park. Teddington Studios, where Errol Flynn launched his career, is still operational and sits alongside the private Lensbury Club.

Teddington is home to one of London's finest Royal Parks, with areas of unspoilt parkland. This former Royal hunting ground, where herds of deer still wander at will, was the base for General Eisenhower when planning the D-Day operation in 1944.
